Purple Community Detroit Red Wings and Van Andel Institute Announce Partnership The Detroit Red Wings and Van Andel Institute announced a new partnership at an August press conference. The event, held at Van Andel Institute, featured remarks by Tom Wilson, President and CEO of Olympia Entertainment, David Van Andel and Carol Van Andel. During the conference, plans for a Hockey Fights Cancer game on October 26 were announced. The partnership is part of a larger effort to deliver Van Andel Institute’s mission of biomedical research and science education across the state of Michigan, and then on to the national stage. This statewide initiative is seen by both parties as a way to build connections between the two cities and bring cancer and disease awareness to a new audience. David Van Andel is looking forward to the Institute partnering with the Red Wings organization. “Some people talk about Michigan in terms of East and West, but I don’t see my home state in that way. When it comes to Michiganders, we’re all Red Wings fans, and it doesn’t matter if you were raised in Dearborn or Grand Haven,” Van Andel said. A portion of the proceeds from the game’s ticket sales will be donated to Van Andel Institute. Upper-level seats are available for 0, which includes the opportunity to join other supporters on the Red Wings’ ice for a Join Van Andel Institute and the Detroit Red Wings at Hockey Fights Cancer Night October 26, 2013. group photo after the game. The Red Wings will also honor cancer survivors and those affected by cancer throughout the night. “Connecting with the community has always been a high priority for the Red Wings, especially when it comes to battling cancer and disease,” said Tom Wilson, the President and CEO of Olympia Entertainment. “We are honored to be able to team up with Van Andel Institute, a leader in research and education. Purple Community in particular is a great way to engage our fans and raise funds for an outstanding cause.” Tickets are available for Hockey Fights Cancer Night at www.DetroitRedWings.com/ hockeyfightscancer – promo code: “PURPLE”. 10
